Dime Marine Products Transom Saver Care & Maintenance Guide
Rated for Outboards up to 115HP
For Saltwater Applications
Introduction
Thank you for choosing our transom saver. Proper care and maintenance will extend the life of your product and ensure maximum protection for your boat’s transom. This unit is specifically engineered to support outboard motors up to 115 horsepower.
Saltwater use introduces additional wear factors such as corrosion and salt buildup, so consistent care is essential.
Before Each Use
- Inspection
- Check the transom saver for cracks, bends, or loose hardware.
- Ensure all rubber pads are intact and free of excessive wear.
- Mounting
- Confirm that the transom saver is securely fastened to both the trailer and outboard.
- Ensure transom saver is secured to the outboard. Securing the transom saver by using a bungie cord or other fastening strap is HIGHLY recommended.
- Verify that the motor weight is evenly supported and that the saver is aligned correctly. DO NOT OVER TRIM OUTBOARD. This may cause damage to transom saver and void warranty.
After Each Use (Saltwater Specific)
Saltwater is highly corrosive. Always perform the following after launching or trailering:
- Rinse Thoroughly: Use fresh water to rinse all metal and rubber components. Pay special attention to hardware and trailer components.
- Dry Completely: Wipe with a clean cloth to prevent salt deposits from drying onto the surface.
- Lubrication: Lightly apply a marine-grade anti-corrosion spray or silicone lubricant to pivot points, fasteners, and moving parts. Avoid over-application to rubber pads.
Monthly Maintenance
- Hardware Check: Tighten bolts and screws as needed. Replace any hardware showing signs of corrosion.
- Rubber Contact Pads: Inspect for cracking, hardening, or wear. Replace if pads lose elasticity.
- Protective Coating: Apply a thin film of marine-grade corrosion inhibitor or wax to exposed metal surfaces.
Best Practices for Longevity
- Do not exceed rated capacity (115HP).
- Never use with a damaged or modified unit.
- Always check compatibility with your trailer and outboard before use.
- Replace at the first sign of structural compromise (cracks, bending, or excessive rust).
